Birth in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, a rich agricultural area 45 miles west of Winnipeg, gives just a faint clue to how Ron Lyons was called “Peaches” … Skated for the NMHL International Falls AC in 1926-27, the ASHL Medicine Hat Tigers in 1927-28, the WKHL Trail Smoke Eaters in 1928-29, and the PCHL Portland Buckaroos in 1929-30 ... Portland sold his rights to the Boston Bruins on April 17, 1930, for $5,000 … 1930-31 was his only year in the NHL … Played 14 games with the Bruins and 22 games with the Quakers … Started the season with Boston, was traded to Philadelphia with Bill Hutton December 8, 1930, and was traded back to Boston two months later … Lyons, age 21, got two goals and four assists in his time with the Quakers … Stan Baumgartner of the Philadelphia Inquirer wrote that Lyons “fairly burned up the ice” … Lyons credited with the game-winning goal in the Quakers’ 4-3 win over the Maroons in overtime January 10, which brought the Quakers’ 15-game losing streak to an end ... Coach Cooper Smeaton granted Lyons the starting spot as left wing for the next five games after that ... Traded back to the Boston Bruins on February 13, 1931 for cash ... Played 14 games for the Bruins (no goals or assists) and seven games for the CAHL Boston Tigers in 1930-31 (two goals, three assists) ... In 1931-32, played for CAHL’s Boston Cubs (two games) and Springfield Indians (31 games), being credited with eight goals and seven assists overall ... Later played for the Windsor Bulldogs of the IHL before returning to the Pacific Northwest to play for the PCHL Portland Buckaroos and the Seattle Seahawks ... Last year as a player: 1937-38, with the Seahawks and Buckaroos... Died February 5, 1942 in Seattle ... A maid who was delivering Lyons a telegram informing him of his mother's death in Detroit found him dead in his hotel room, apparently of a heart attack.
