Started out with the Cleveland Indians in 1923-24 and Fort Pitt Panthers of the USAHA in 1924-25 … NHL career began with the Montreal Canadiens in 1925-26 but only played two games for the team … Came to the Pittsburgh Pirates from the Canadiens in October 1926 … Spent four years with the Pirates, receiving a lot of playing time … Called one of the NHL’s fastest defensemen, and one who could score … Noted for stiff body checks … A hustler who could make a quick pass ... In 1929-30, got 10 goals and seven assists for Pittsburgh, and his 42 penalty minutes made him second only to Rodger Smith for time spent in the box … Did not overly impress writers outside of Philadelphia … Verdict of one was a “fair to middlin’” part of a brittle Quakers defense … At age 28, got one goal and one assist in 39 games for the Quakers, and registered 46 penalty minutes … Started on defense in the first three Quaker games before Allen Shields, Hib Milks, and D’Arcy Coulson got the starting assignments … McKinnon received some starts in January 1931 when Coulson was ill ... Did not play in the NHL again after he played for the Quakers, but was in the minors throughout the 1930s … Played 48 games for Kansas City Pla-Mors of the AHA in 1931-32 (16 goals, four assists) … Stayed in Kansas City for 1932-33 before moving on to Oklahoma City and St. Louis …Last year as a player: 1938-39, for the AHA St. Louis Flyers.
