Philly Flyers Take Home Opener

Philadelphia (AP) - A third period goal by Bill Sutherland carried Philadelphia Flyers to a 1-0 vitory over Pittsburgh Penguins last night in the first National Hockey League game played here in 36 years.
Sutherland third goal of the season came at 2:59 of the final period and gave the Flyers their second consecutive win after two defeats in the new Western Division of the NHL.
Sutherland, who was a 40-goal man in Quebec last year took a rebound shot off the stick of Leon Rochefort and slammed it past goalie Les Binkley from about 10 feet out
Until Suthernland scored, the opening night crowd of 7,812 at the new $12,000,000 Spectrum Arena was treated to a closely fought defensive battle. Pittsburgh took nine shots in the first period at Flyer goalie Doug Favell.
The Flyers, slow getting started, only had five shots at the Penguins net in the first 20 minutes
The closest the Flyers came to a score in the first two periods cam when Garry Peters carried the puck in, faked once, and fired a shot which hit Binkley's foot.
